About The Position

VEG was founded in 2014 with the goal of improving the emergency veterinary experience for pets, their owners, and the staff. VEG operates 24/7 hospitals nationwide and focuses on providing a positive and supportive work environment with opportunities for learning and growth. The Veterinary Sonographer role supports VEG hospitals and training facilities by providing ultrasound services for emergency cases and assisting with ultrasound training for staff. This role requires adaptability, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively with emergency doctors and other team members. The Sonographer will also play a key role in coordinating educational initiatives and promoting the development of ultrasound skills within the organization.

Requirements

  • Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT/LVMT), diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS), and/or equivalent experience (e.g., sonographer course certificates).
  • 3+ years of veterinary ultrasound experience.
  • Previous training experience and the ability to teach and develop doctors, nurses, and fellow sonographers.
  • Comfortable mentoring others and giving/receiving feedback from colleagues.
  • Adaptability to changing environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with peers, customers, and VEGgies.
  • Embrace the VEG Way and be willing to share perspective and experience.
  • Eagerness to grow as a sonographer through training and continuing education.
  • Willingness to travel to regional hospitals and off-site training facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound studies and facilitate ultrasound training at home and regional hospitals.
  • Maintain positive relationships with teleconsultation radiologists and accept feedback.
  • Ensure training content aligns with VEG's culture, mission, and vision, and reflects current sonographic techniques.
  • Track doctor and nursing team skills using a VEG Ultrasound Certificate checklist.
  • Engage in self-reflection and program evaluation to improve VEG's ultrasound training programs.
  • Meet regularly with medical directors, nursing trainer, and director of radiology education to discuss program development and training needs.
  • Meet regularly with hospital manager and medical director to discuss training protocols, schedules, and team concerns.
  • Coordinate weekly schedule to balance floor shifts with training responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing ultrasound curriculum materials (e.g., PowerPoints, videos, simulations, assessments).
  • Provide educational demonstrations on various ultrasound topics (abdominal, thoracic, cardiac, cervical, musculoskeletal) to doctors and nurses at other VEG locations.
