Requirements

  • Education equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.
  • At least 3 years of recent experience in veterinary medicine, with increasing responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to accurately manage and record detailed information in medical records and other data-management systems.
  • Ability to properly restrain patients.
  • Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role.
  • A commitment to outstanding client service.

Nice To Haves

  • Veterinary Technician Certification (RVT) preferred but not required.
  • Specialty experience preferred but not required.
  • Preferred 1+ years experience with in-patient management but not required.
  • Fluency in multiple languages a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of patient and client-care duties, conducts patient assessments and performs procedures and treatments.
  • Communicates clearly with the veterinarians, other hospital personnel, and clients to ensure that patients receive the care they need.
  • Administers medications, provides supportive care and advanced monitoring.
  • Triage multiple patients admitted into ICU from many of the practices within the Veterinary Specialty Center, initiating their medical care and providing continued monitoring as instructed in a variety of cases.
  • Provides patients and clients comfort by keeping the hospital clean and presentable.
  • Provides compassionate patient care, keeping patients clean, dry, and comfortable.
  • Alerts the veterinarian(s) to changes in patients’ condition.
  • Recognizes patients with contagious disease and follows relevant procedures.
  • Provides safe and effective patient restraint.
  • Medicates patients by order of prescribing veterinarian or technician.
  • Uses proper safety techniques and positioning for radiological procedures.
  • Triages patient needs and prioritizes treatments accordingly.
  • Performs procedures such as IV catheterization and other common treatments.
  • Performs venipuncture on all common veins.
  • Places urinary catheters.
  • Places nasal cannulas for oxygen delivery.
  • Interprets/Monitors ECG’s.
  • Manages tubes such as chest and feeding tubes.
  • Assists with and documents patient treatments.
  • Walks, cleans, and feeds patients.
  • Fills prescriptions accurately; asks for guidance if necessary.
  • Runs lab tests as needed in hospital.
  • Places nasoesophageal and nasogastric tubes in patients.
  • Completes medical records accurately and efficiently.
  • Keeps the hospital clean and stocked.
  • Launders soiled blankets, towels, and other linens.
  • Demonstrates initiative in everyday duties by seeking other work during down times, assisting other employees, and filling in for other employees as needed.
  • Troubleshooting of ICU equipment.
  • Attend ICU meetings.
  • Performs downtime projects such as organizing/cleaning.
