Requirements

  • One year of professional experience as a veterinarian
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited college or university
  • Possession of an active license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medicine
  • Must obtain an active license to practice veterinary medicine issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Veterinary Medicine within six months of hire
  • Must obtain United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Category II Accreditation within six months of hire
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

  • Observe horses before, during, and after races and determine fitness to compete
  • Oversee blood and urine sample collection and supervise bleeder medication activities
  • Provide first aid, treat injuries, and assist with decisions regarding euthanasia when needed
  • Maintain lists, reports, and documentation for inspections, medications, and veterinary decisions
  • Assist with disease control, quarantine enforcement, inspections, and investigations under state regulations
  • Work with inspectors, veterinarians, and racing officials to ensure compliance with rules and policies
