Part-time Veterinary Kennel Technician
About The Position
Yukon Veterinary Hospital provides a wide range of services including vaccinations, routine medical care, advanced diagnostics, and surgery. They offer complete dental care, weight management consultations, soft tissue surgery, and diagnosis/treatment of internal medicine cases. The hospital boasts a team of friendly, caring, and well-trained professionals, including receptionists and licensed veterinary technicians who can educate clients. The doctors are dedicated to providing the best medical and surgical care for pets. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment for in-house laboratory diagnostics, digital radiology, and ultrasonography. This is a part-time position with a schedule of 15-25 hours per week, requiring availability on weekends, holidays, and occasional morning shifts.
Requirements
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
- Proper methods of animal restraint.
- Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
- Perform moderately heavy physical labor (large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, etc).
- Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared and injured animals.
- Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.
- Previous animal handling experience required.
Responsibilities
- Care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients in the hospital and boarding facility.
- Cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, and medicating patients.
- Restocking hospital supplies.
- Helping with post-operative patients.
- Assisting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams.
- Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues that may arise.
- Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments (with training).
