About The Position

Fairlea Animal Hospital is dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine along with friendly, compassionate service in Lewisburg, WV. The hospital aims to offer world-class service and care in a state-of-the-art veterinary facility, treating every patient as if they were their own pet. The team consists of highly trained, experienced pet lovers who enjoy working hard and having fun. The kennel technician is responsible for the care, feeding, medicating, and cleaning of patients in the hospital and clients in the boarding facility. This role involves various tasks such as cleaning, laundry, bathing, feeding, walking dogs, and administering medication. The technician will also restock hospital supplies, assist with post-operative patients, and help doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams. Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior, and any issues is required. Training will be provided for cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
  • Proper methods of animal restraint.
  • Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
  • Perform moderately heavy physical labor (large dogs, bags of litter, pet foods, etc).
  • Ability to sympathetically and patiently attend to sick, scared and injured animals.
  • Ability to learn to administer medications and to recognize abnormal conditions.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior and any issue that may arise while the animal is in care.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments (after training).
