Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Chester Animal Clinic is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant in Chester, Virginia. The clinic is a full-service small animal hospital that has cared for pets in Chesterfield County since 1968. It performs many diagnostic tests on-site and partners with local specialists for advanced cases. Fear Free practices guide patient care, including calming pheromones and music, warm towels, treats, and gentle handling. The adjacent West Chester Pet Resort may also have boarding and daycare guests needing care. The Veterinary Assistant helps prepare patients and rooms for exams and procedures, supports on-site laboratory work, provides prompt medical attention to resort guests when needed, and helps clients understand their pets’ care and next steps. This is a weekday day-shift position with nine-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, and no required weekend or holiday shifts.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of experience in a veterinary setting.
- Availability for nine-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday.
- Comfort with dogs, cats, and other companion animals.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with patient restraint, sample collection, laboratory testing, or surgery and dental preparation.
- Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.
- Clear and kind communication with clients and teammates.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients and assist with smooth exams and procedures through careful restraint and patient preparation.
- Perform accurate on-site laboratory work to help clients receive answers faster.
- Provide prompt medical attention to boarding and daycare guests when needed.
- Keep exam and treatment rooms clean and well stocked.
- Communicate with clients about their pets’ care and next steps.
