About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join the team at Kings Crossing Animal Hospital. The assistant helps veterinarians provide compassionate nursing care and supports clients, pets, and the clinic’s daily operations. The role includes patient care, laboratory work, maintaining medical records and equipment, assisting with prescriptions, and supporting reception functions. Candidates should be friendly, outgoing, people-oriented, detail attentive, self-motivated, and effective communicators with strong technical skills.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
• High school diploma.
• Must be able to work every other Saturday; no holidays or Sundays.
• Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
• Must frequently stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Must be able to use a computer system and a multi-line telephone.
• Must be able to handle dogs on leashes.
• Must be able to work around disinfectant and sanitation chemicals, animal dander, and animal excretions.
• Must be comfortable restraining animals during medical examinations.

Nice To Haves

• Animal handling and safe restraint techniques.
• Venipuncture and blood sample collection.
• IV catheter placement.
• Administration of medications, vaccines, and injections.
• Laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostic testing.
• Digital radiography and proper positioning.
• Accurate medical record documentation.
• Knowledge of veterinary medications and preventative care.

Responsibilities

• Help clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
• Assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Fill prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explain prescription directions.
• Assist receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and provide telephone support.
• Perform laboratory tests.
• Keep facilities clean and well maintained.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
