Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
VCA Boone Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join its Primary Care (GP) hospital. Veterinary Assistants support veterinarians, technicians, and the broader hospital staff in providing animal care. They help ensure patients receive appropriate care in a safe and comfortable environment, and maintain clean, comfortable spaces for patients and clients. The role includes restraining animals during examinations, treatments, procedures, and vaccinations; keeping treatment areas and exam rooms stocked; maintaining accurate records and logs; sterilizing equipment; and observing patients for signs of health concerns and reporting findings to senior staff. The position is full-time, with daytime hours and rotating Saturdays, at the hospital in Western Springs, Illinois. Compensation is $17–$24 per hour, depending on experience (DOE).
Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians, technicians, and the entire veterinary hospital staff.
- Help provide proper patient care in a safe and comfortable manner.
- Maintain a clean and comfortable environment for patients and clients.
- Ensure treatment areas and examination rooms are fully stocked.
- Restrain animals during physical examinations, treatments, procedures, and vaccinations.
- Keep accurate records and logs.
- Sterilize equipment.
- Observe patients for obvious signs of health concerns and report findings to senior staff.
