About The Position

Thunderbird Veterinary Hospital is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant to provide care for animals in a comprehensive veterinary hospital offering wellness care, surgery, in-house diagnostics, dental care, microchipping, grooming, and MLS Laser Therapy. The role involves supporting patients with varying medical needs, including hospitalized cases, and communicating treatment plans to clients. The hospital provides virtual and hands-on interactive training and continuing development opportunities.

Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of Veterinary Assistant experience is preferred.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Must be compassionate, calm, a team player, a multitasker, and a strong communicator.
• Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises.
• May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.
• Self-starter with a desire to continue advancing knowledge and skills.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
• Perform diagnostic imaging.
• Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
• Administer medications.
• Communicate treatment plans effectively to clients.
• Prepare for and assist with surgery.
• Assist with anesthetic management.
