About The Position

Small Animal Emergency Services is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant to support emergency and critical care for pets in Vass, NC. The hospital treats an average of 500 patients monthly and has an in-house IDEXX laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and therapeutic laser technology. The varied caseload ranges from minor injuries and routine emergencies to complex critical cases. The role offers opportunities to develop clinical skills through virtual and hands-on training and continuing development. The hospital operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and is open 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. The position requires working nights, weekends, and holidays. The work involves a fast-paced clinical environment and exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.

Requirements

At least 2 years of veterinary assistant experience.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Compassionate, calm, and collaborative approach to teamwork.
Punctuality and reliability in adhering to scheduled shifts.
Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
Expertise in safe, low-stress animal restraint techniques.
Proficiency in collecting blood, urine, fecal, and skin samples.
Experience with radiographic positioning and image capture.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.

Nice To Haves

Emergency veterinary experience is highly preferred, but is not required for more experienced applicants.

Responsibilities

Restrain animals and triage incoming patients.
Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
Perform diagnostic imaging.
Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
Administer medications.
Communicate treatment plans effectively to clients.
Prepare for and assist with surgery.
Manage anesthesia.
