About The Position

Sierra Animal Wellness Center is seeking a passionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join its team in Colfax, California. The role involves supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in a caring, collaborative clinical environment focused on compassionate, high-quality care for pets and their owners. The practice provides holistic medicine using Chinese herbs and acupuncture, as well as Western veterinary medicine as needed. Prior veterinary clinic experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.

Requirements

• Ability to safely restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments and to restrain and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong communication skills and a client-friendly, compassionate demeanor.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in a veterinary clinic.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with veterinary software.
• Veterinary assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and procedures.
• Restrain and handle animals safely and compassionately during appointments.
• Prepare examination rooms and maintain a clean, sanitary clinical environment.
• Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood draws and urinalysis.
• Communicate with pet owners about care instructions and appointment follow-ups.
• Maintain accurate patient records and update medical histories in practice management software.
