About The Position

Best Care Pet Hospital is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide animal care and customer service. The role supports examinations, treatments, surgeries, laboratory work, medication administration, animal care, medical-record maintenance, and communication with pet owners. The hospital provides diagnostic and preventative services, specialty and advanced care, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and specialty surgeries. The position is based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with rotating Saturdays and 10-hour shifts two to four times per week. The stated pay range is $16–$18 per hour, based on experience and skillset.

Requirements

Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting.
Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and help ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
