About The Position

Bay Ridge Animal Hospital/Annapolis Cat Practice is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide animal care and customer service. The role supports examinations, treatments, surgeries, laboratory work, animal handling and care, medical recordkeeping, and clinic cleanliness. The position offers four 10-hour shifts per week: two early shifts (8:00 AM–6:00 PM), two late shifts (10:00 AM–8:00 PM), and rotating Saturday mornings. Occasional shifts may run from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Salary is $17.00–$20.00 per hour, determined by the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Bay Ridge Animal Hospital provides veterinary care primarily for dogs, with support from its sister facility, Annapolis Cat Hospital, which caters to feline patients. The hospitals aim to deliver excellent veterinary medicine with loving care.

Requirements

Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is required.
Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
