About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The role helps ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates, as well as continuity of quality veterinary care. The Veterinary Assistant provides professional, efficient, and exceptional service, helping clients and pets feel comfortable in the hospital. They use technical skills within state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties. Requirements

• Be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that supports practice efficiency.
• Use technical skills within applicable state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude, dedication to work, and alignment with Banfield’s Five Principles: Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency, and Freedom.
• Demonstrate action orientation, customer focus, good listening, and effective communication.

Nice To Haves

• Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Help maintain the flow of patients.
• Communicate with the veterinarian and veterinary technicians.
• Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance.
• Follow hospital standards to keep pets safe and treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs clean and organized.
• Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and the importance of preventive care.
• Mentor other members of the hospital team.
• Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service to clients and pets.
