Experienced Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Stone Ridge Equine Care is hiring an Experienced Equine Veterinary Assistant. This is a full-time position with a negotiable salary based on experience. The schedule is 4 days per week with one weekend per month. The role involves supporting veterinarians in patient care, both in the hospital and through ambulatory services. The practice focuses on sports medicine, hospitalization, reproduction, wellness, emergency care, and more, offering assistants the chance to build skills and experience variety. The ideal candidate is experienced, values teamwork, takes pride in their work, and contributes to a supportive clinic culture.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of previous equine veterinary assistant experience
- Confidence with horse handling and restraint
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment

Responsibilities
- Feed and treat hospitalized patients
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Confidently handle and restrain horses for veterinary care
- Operate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including X-ray, shockwave, ultrasound, therapy laser, Digatherm, gastroscope, and more
- Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed
- Perform venipuncture
- Assist with catheter placement
- Support fluid therapy
- Collect diagnostic samples
- Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBC/chemistry, fecal testing, and other diagnostics
- Maintain accurate medical records and patient charts
- Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence
- Communicate with clients regarding lab results, patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
- Support surgical procedures, including preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care
- Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked patient-care and treatment areas
- Anticipate the needs of veterinarians, patients, and teammates
- Collaborate with the team to maintain an efficient daily workflow
