About The Position

Stone Ridge Equine Care is seeking an Experienced Equine Veterinary Assistant to join their team. This is a full-time position at a two-doctor equine hospital in Evansville, Indiana, dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care for both companion and performance horses. The role involves working across sports medicine, hospitalization, ambulatory services, reproduction, wellness, and emergency care. The ideal candidate is experienced, values teamwork, takes pride in their work, and contributes to a supportive clinic culture. The position offers a four-day work week and one weekend of work per month.

Requirements

At least 1 year of previous equine veterinary assistant experience
Confidence with horse handling and restraint
Strong attention to detail
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
Strong time-management and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and help keep the day running smoothly

Responsibilities

Feed and treat hospitalized patients
Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
Confidently handle and restrain horses for veterinary care
Operate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including X-ray, shockwave, ultrasound, therapy laser, Digatherm, gastroscope, and more
Prepare and administer medications and treatments as directed
Perform venipuncture
Assist with catheter placement
Support fluid therapy
Collect diagnostic samples
Run in-house laboratory testing, including CBC/chemistry, fecal testing, and other diagnostics
Maintain accurate medical records and patient charts
Educate clients with compassion, clarity, and confidence
Communicate with clients regarding lab results, patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
Support surgical procedures, including preparation, monitoring, recovery, and instrument care
Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked patient-care and treatment areas
Anticipate the needs of veterinarians, patients, and teammates
Collaborate with the team to maintain an efficient daily workflow
