About The Position

Bay Ridge Animal Hospital/Annapolis Cat Practice is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work alongside experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and support staff to provide animals with high-quality care and customer service. The role involves assisting with examinations and treatments, handling animals, supporting laboratory and surgical work, maintaining records and clinic cleanliness, and communicating with pet owners. This is a full-time position with four 10-hour shifts per week: two early shifts from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and two late shifts from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, plus rotating Saturday mornings. Occasional shifts may run from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Compensation is $17.00–$20.00 per hour, based on skills, experience, and qualifications.

Requirements

Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is required.
Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and help ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
