Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Lake City Animal Health and Wellness Center is a full-service community animal hospital focused on high-quality veterinary care, accurate diagnostics, effective communication, compassionate treatment, and client education. The Veterinary Assistant supports patient care across a range of veterinary services, including wellness, surgery, laboratory diagnostics, radiology, intensive care, dentistry, and internal medicine. The role includes assisting with animal restraint, patient triage, diagnostic and laboratory procedures, nursing care, medications, client communication, surgical preparation, and anesthesia. The position involves exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, as well as possible bites, scratches, animal waste, and contagious diseases. The hospital offers virtual and hands-on interactive training and continuing development opportunities.
Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of Veterinary Assistant experience is preferred.
- Compassionate, calm, team-oriented, able to multitask, and a strong communicator.
- Must be able to properly restrain pets.
- Self-starter with a desire to advance knowledge and skills.
- Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises and may be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Restrain pets appropriately.
- Triage incoming patients.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
- Perform diagnostic imaging.
- Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
- Administer medications.
- Communicate treatment plans effectively to clients.
- Prepare for and assist with surgery.
- Manage anesthesia.
