About The Position

VCA Arbor Animal Hospital is seeking a veterinary assistant to join its four-doctor practice in Austin, Texas. The practice has served the Arboretum area of north Austin for 30 years and provides compassionate care in a low-stress environment. The Veterinary Assistant supports the Technician and Doctor teams and helps deliver a positive client experience and exceptional patient care.

The role involves assisting with examinations and routine procedures, taking medical histories and patient vitals, filling prescriptions as allowed by law, performing laboratory work and diagnostic imaging, caring for hospitalized animals, maintaining medical records, assisting doctors and technicians, and keeping the hospital clean and safe.

This is a full-time position with four 10-hour shifts and rotating Saturdays. The listed pay range is $18.00–$25.00 per hour. VCA highlights continuing education, career development, and a supportive, inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Restrain patients and assist with examinations and routine procedures.
• Take detailed medical histories and patient vitals.
• Fill prescriptions as allowed by law.
• Perform laboratory work and diagnostic imaging.
• Provide compassionate care for hospitalized animals.
• Maintain medical records.
• Assist doctors and technicians as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe hospital environment.
