About The Position
Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support patient care in a companion-animal practice. The role includes assisting with a range of clinical and nursing tasks, including restraint, triage, laboratory work, diagnostic imaging, care of medical and hospitalized patients, medication administration, client communication, surgical assistance, and anesthetic management. The position offers virtual and hands-on interactive training and continuing development for employees who wish to build their skills or advance their careers.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of Veterinary Assistant experience is preferred.
- Ability to properly restrain pets.
- Compassionate, calm, team-oriented, and able to multitask.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self-starter with a desire to continue advancing knowledge and skills.
Nice To Haves
- Proficiency in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Restrain pets.
- Triage incoming patients.
- Collect and analyze laboratory samples.
- Perform diagnostic imaging.
- Manage and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability.
- Administer medications.
- Communicate treatment plans effectively with clients.
- Prepare for and assist with surgeries.
- Manage anesthesia.
