Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
VCA Mission Animal Hospital, an AAHA-accredited general practice and three-doctor practice, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join its hospital team. The role involves providing compassionate nursing care to animals and assisting veterinarians and technicians with procedures and patient care. The position is full-time, based at the hospital in Alhambra, California, with flexibility required for hours that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The hospital’s stated hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday for two hours for boarding. The listed pay range is $18–$23 per hour.
Requirements
- Documented previous animal hospital experience.
- Current California RVT license.
- Flexibility in hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Customer service skills, including phone skills.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate and skilled nursing care to critically ill and injured animals.
- Assist veterinarians and technician staff with medical procedures, including triage, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and respond promptly to changes in condition.
- Place catheters and perform venipuncture.
- Perform radiology duties.
- Support patient recovery.
- Communicate with clients, including loading exam rooms and presenting estimates.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with hospital protocols.
- Collaborate with other members of the veterinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
