About The Position

Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital is hiring part-time Veterinary Assistants to work alongside experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and support staff to provide high-quality care for animals. The role supports the hospital’s mission to provide progressive, compassionate medical and surgical care for dogs and cats. The position pays $18.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications. The schedule is part-time and requires alternating Saturdays.

Cainhoy Veterinary Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service veterinary hospital that opened in February 2021. It serves dogs and cats in the Cainhoy Historic District in Charleston, South Carolina, and surrounding areas.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with animals in a veterinary setting is required.
• Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
• Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
• Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
• Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe, sanitary environment.
