Since our founding in 1973, Los Caballos Veterinary Clinic has continued to grow and expand our services throughout San Angelo and surrounding areas. We provide the best veterinary care through the use of modern technology in diagnostics, medical therapies, surgical procedures, and preventative health care. More about the Role The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures.
Requirements
- Previous veterinary experience preferred
- Must me able to stand, walk, bend and stoop, and lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to work around animals, medical equipment & Chemicals and have the capability to safely restrain animals as needed.
- Hours and days as assigned by management and may include weekends or holidays
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
- Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
- Restrain and handle animals safely during examinations and treatments.
- Assisting veterinarians and technicians with procedures, treatments and diagnostics
- Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas
- Clean, disinfect and maintain cages and hospital areas
- Provide excellent customer service and able to communicate professionally with clients
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
- Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
- Any other duties as assigned.
