Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
VCA Animal Hospital of Plainfield is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join its Patient Care Team. The role supports doctors and technicians with daily operations and patient care at a full-service veterinary facility offering preventative and routine medical care, occasional emergency care, hospitalization, cold laser therapy, ultrasound, orthopedic surgeries, and advanced soft tissue surgeries. The position is part-time, with 10-hour shifts scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, detail-oriented, and passionate about animals and client service. The position description outlines the general nature and level of work and is not a comprehensive inventory of all duties or qualifications. Management may revise the description or assign other tasks as circumstances change.
Responsibilities
- Assist doctors and technicians with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Handle and restrain patients.
- Perform temperature, pulse, and respiration checks (TPRs) and observe patients.
- Administer oral and topical medications as directed.
- Clean and maintain examination rooms, treatment areas, and equipment.
- Prepare and restock surgical and treatment areas.
- Support client communication and education.
- Maintain accurate medical records and assist with discharge instructions.
- Provide compassionate care to hospitalized pets.
