About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NY is seeking a Relief Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. This role is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.

Responsibilities
- Assist with nursing care to surgery patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
- Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in Surgery and other designated areas for the role.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
- Perform radiography and lab work.
- Engage with our clients during appointments, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
- Able to set up intravenous and subcutaneous fluids.
- Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
- Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
- Ability to assist during surgical procedures.
