As a Veterinary Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in conducting diagnostic tests and analyzing results to help diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions in animals. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic laboratory procedures
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of veterinary laboratory procedures and techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals
  • Commitment to continuous learning and growth, and a desire to advance the field of veterinary medicine
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated machines (Idexx, Abaxis, Nova) preferred
  • Experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory setting recommended, but not required
  • AVA, or CVT or equivalent preferred, not required
  • Experience and proficiency in using EzyVet recommended, not required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine laboratory procedures including blood tests, urinalysis, and basic cytology
  • Prepare samples for analysis, perform tests, and document results.
  • Interpret test results and accurately record in patient medical records.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and ensure the laboratory is clean and organized
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and policies
  • Assist with training and supervising new technicians, assistants, and students
  • Communicate effectively with clients, veterinary staff, and colleagues to provide information and ensure excellent customer service
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay current on best practices and advancements in the field
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and professional work environment
  • Use appropriate veterinary terminology, maintain a positive and adaptable attitude, self-start, highly motivated
