About The Position

VERG Brooklyn is seeking an experienced Veterinary Laboratory Technician to perform diagnostic testing, manage laboratory equipment, and deliver accurate, timely results to support medical treatment decisions. This role is essential to patient care, working closely with veterinarians and nursing teams in a fast-paced, 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. The position offers opportunities for skill development and exposure to complex cases and a wide range of diagnostic testing.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory setting.
  • Experience in a referral or specialty hospital.
  • Comfort working with common laboratory techniques, veterinary analyzers, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Pride in producing accurate, dependable results.
  • Attention to detail without losing sight of urgent priorities.
  • Ability to stay organized while managing multiple tests and requests.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused when the hospital gets busy.
  • Willingness to help, learn, and share knowledge with the team.
  • Scheduling flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Performing hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology, and microbiology testing.
  • Preparing, processing, labeling, and storing samples.
  • Preparing and staining cytology slides and providing interpretation support.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as IDEXX and Abaxis analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Entering results accurately and promptly into electronic medical records.
  • Monitoring quality control standards.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and testing issues.
  • Communicating with medical teams to prioritize urgent samples.
  • Keeping the laboratory clean, organized, and well stocked.
  • Helping train new team members when needed.
