Veterinary Assistant - Emergency
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Downtown Manhattan is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team! This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting with estimates, performing diagnostics, setting up patients, discharging patients, and handling client communication. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will assist with nursing care, maintain cleanliness of designated areas, understand medication classifications and side effects, administer medications, perform radiography and lab work, conduct physical exams, engage with clients, and remain current on CPR guidelines.
Requirements
- Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant
- Unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card

Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in
- Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
- Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
- Discharge patients
- Handle client communication
- Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
- Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT
- Perform radiography and lab work
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Engage with our clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
