About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians with estimates, performing diagnostics, setting up patients in ICU or inpatient wards, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The position requires providing nursing care according to hospital standards, reporting patient status, understanding medication classifications and administration, performing phlebotomy, conducting physical exams, and possessing knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment. Proficiency in R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines is also expected.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines
  • Applicants must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency cases as they come in
  • Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
  • Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
  • Discharge patients
  • Handle client communication
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
