About The Position

BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant for our Dentistry department at our Tacoma, WA location! This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through Kahuna leveling system. Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handle client communication.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant
  • Active medication clerk license or ability to obtain within first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
  • Maintain active medication clerk license or be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
