About The Position

Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Tacoma, Washington, is seeking a veterinarian to join its two-doctor practice. The hospital is open to full-time or part-time candidates and is especially interested in a surgeon or a veterinarian with a strong interest in surgery. The role offers a collaborative, supportive environment centered on quality medicine, mentorship, empathy, compassion, and work/life balance. The practice serves a diverse and loyal client base and uses fear-free, low-stress handling protocols. The hospital has an in-house laboratory, digital dental and X-ray equipment, ultrasound, and a spacious working area. Each veterinarian is supported by approximately 2.5 support staff, including veterinary assistants, treatment technicians, and three licensed veterinary technicians. The team supports appointments and surgeries, with LVTs performing blood draws, X-rays, and other technical responsibilities. Board-certified surgeons provide support for complex surgeries and are available to mentor veterinarians seeking to develop surgical skills. Orthopedic, cardiac, and ultrasound specialists also provide services at the hospital. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, with no evenings or weekends. Hospital hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; full-time schedules can be arranged over four days, and part-time opportunities are available. After-hours emergencies are referred elsewhere. The schedule includes 30-minute appointments, a 1.5-hour lunch break, and an additional 30 minutes of catch-up time. New graduates are welcome and can receive initially longer appointment times, assistance from an experienced team member, dedicated case-review time with the Chief of Staff, shadowing opportunities, and an environment where questions and requests for help are encouraged. The practice emphasizes integrity, compassion, inclusivity, empathy, teamwork, and quality care. Team activities include potlucks, team-building events, and rewards.
