About The Position

Performs duties as it relates to interviewing, advising, and assisting veterans and dependents in understanding and obtaining eligible benefits and entitlements under Federal and State legislation. Advocates for and assists veterans and dependents in identifying additional needs and coordinates with appropriate agencies for assistance. Serves as a liaison between veterans and dependents, and Federal and State agencies and other resources. Determines eligibility and ensures that claims are processed professionally and within the general framework of existing laws, rules and regulations governing veterans' benefits and entitlements.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Six (6) years in human services, counseling, or social work or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required.
  • Candidates who are contacted will be required to produce original required documents (e.g., current driver’s license, diploma, school transcript, certifications, etc.) listed on the Notice of Job Opportunity within five (5) days of being extended an offer, in writing, by the Bureau Chief of BHR (or designee).
  • Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.
  • Knowledge of the administrative and general operating policies, procedures, and practices of the Bureau/Department.
  • Create reports using software packages and reporting tools.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations for relevant programs.
  • Strong understanding of legal principles and practices, interpretation of applicable laws, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in customer service and strategies used to understand user needs, manage expectations, and deliver solutions to expressed challenges.
  • Establish or implement departmental policies, goals, objectives, or procedures in conjunction with board members, organization officials, or staff members.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

  • Honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for more than 180 consecutive days, or during War Time.
