Under the direction of the Health Department, the Veterans Program Manager will ensure comprehensive and quality services are provided to Tribal Veterans with cultural sensitivity, humility and compassion. Work involves assisting military veterans and their dependents or survivors, including advisement in pursuit of benefits from the Veterans Administration and other agencies. This position will study and explain State and Federal veteran legislation, regulations and procedures; consult with medical providers about specific benefits to which veterans or their dependents may be entitled; and consult with other government agencies to ensure that veterans are receiving the maximum level of assistance and benefits to which they are entitled. The position will also plan, coordinate and supervise a variety of initiatives such as peer support groups, community outreach, event coordination, and advocacy and education. The position also provides professional support through peer-to-peer engagement as a Certified Peer Support Specialist, with lived experience central to assisting other military veterans and their dependents or survivors. The Manager shall provide overall leadership to the Veterans Program for the Nooksack Tribe and will be the liaison to outside partners. The Manager will be responsible for collecting appropriate data to develop and grow programs and services for the Nooksack Veterans Program.
