About The Position

The Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians by providing high-quality medical care to animals in a clinical setting. This position involves performing a variety of technical tasks such as collecting samples, conducting laboratory tests, administering medications, and assisting during surgical procedures. The Vet Technician ensures the comfort and safety of animals while monitoring their health status and communicating effectively with pet owners. This role requires a compassionate approach combined with strong technical knowledge to contribute to the overall well-being and recovery of animal patients. Ultimately, the Vet Technician helps maintain efficient clinic operations and supports the delivery of exceptional veterinary services.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program.
  • Certification or licensure as a Veterinary Technician in the state of employment.
  • Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and humanely.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with veterinarians, staff, and pet owners.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Advanced certifications such as VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialist) in a relevant area.
  • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software.
  • Continuing education in emerging veterinary technologies and treatments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
  • Collect and process laboratory samples including blood, urine, and tissue.
  • Administer prescribed medications and vaccinations to animals as directed.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and patient progress throughout treatment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and work areas.
  • Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, nutrition, and general animal health.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper storage of pharmaceuticals.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging such as X-rays under veterinarian supervision.
