About The Position
This is a part-time Venipuncture Technician position within Atrium Health, specifically in the GCMG MMG: Carolina Lakes - Internal Medicine department. The role involves collecting laboratory specimens, ensuring patient identification, accurately labeling specimens, and delivering them to the appropriate laboratory department. The position requires working in community and clinic environments, with potential exposure to biohazardous materials and the possibility of encountering combative behavior. Employees are expected to work safely and may need to stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of hospital or on job training program for Venipuncture Tech required.
- Must speak English fluently.
Nice To Haves
- CNA I or II, or Certified Phlebotomist preferred.
- One year medical office or hospital experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Uses laboratory information system to remove, assess and collect laboratory specimens according to test requisition.
- Uses proper equipment (vacutainer tubes, butterflies, syringes and needles) to acquire blood specimen.
- Verifies each patient identification to each requisition.
- Accurately records the patient's name and identification number on each specimen.
- Delivers specimens to the appropriate laboratory department.
- Seeks assistance from supervisor on duty or procedures with which not totally familiar.
