Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid MN Commercial Class B driver’s license, or ability to obtain within 12 months of start date.
  • Two (2) years of experience in maintenance, repair, and operation of vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to operate equipment, acquire licenses, and complete training required for this position.
  • Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in automotive technology or related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience working with general automotive, park maintenance equipment, light and heavy-duty standby generator systems, light and heavy-duty truck repair, municipal construction equipment, and emergency vehicles.
  • Four (4) years of experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel, drivetrain, and computerized vehicle systems.
  • Experience maintaining emergency vehicles and equipment in accordance with applicable industry standards.
  • Experience with welding, metal fabrication, and equipment modifications.
  • Certified MN DOT Inspector

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair a wide variety of City vehicles and equipment, including Public Works, Police, Fire, and other municipal fleet assets.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and scheduled services to maximize equipment reliability, performance, and service life.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, brake, steering, suspension, transmission, drivetrain, HVAC, emissions, and computerized vehicle systems.
  • Maintain and repair gasoline, diesel, propane, hybrid, and electric-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair specialized equipment and accessories, including emergency lighting and warning systems, communications equipment, snowplows, spreaders, liftgates, and other vehicle-mounted equipment.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications to repair or improve vehicles, equipment, and specialized fleet components.
  • Respond to vehicle and equipment breakdowns by performing field repairs.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment and a computerized asset management system to document inspections, repairs, labor, and parts inventory.
  • Maintain tools, shop equipment, and inventory while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and environmental standards, and maintain vehicles and equipment in a safe, operational condition.
  • Communicate effectively with City staff, supervisors, vendors, and contractors regarding maintenance priorities, repair status, and equipment needs.
  • Perform Snow & Ice Control operations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
