The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Food Distribution Division contributes to the nutritional well-being of the citizens of North Carolina by distributing USDA foods to eligible Recipient Agencies. Food Distribution administers six food programs for USDA. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs of all Food Distribution Equipment, including servicing batteries, tires, brake work, starters, alternators, oil changes, transmission fluid, antifreeze, air lines system and lights on tractors and trailers, reefer units on trailers, light body work, and maintaining banners on trailers. It also involves preventative maintenance and maintaining two (2) standby generators. The role includes installing and maintaining tracking systems on trailers, installing and maintaining dash cams in all vehicles, and maintaining warehouse doors, freezer/cooler doors, and security gates. Periodic visits to the Salisbury, NC warehouse for maintenance and repair will occur. The position also involves responding to roadside breakdowns within a reasonable distance and daily monitoring of fuel tank levels (diesel and gasoline) and above ground DEF storage tank levels.
