About The Position

CarMax is hiring a Vehicle Delivery Driver in Columbia, South Carolina. This role transports vehicles between CarMax locations, customer locations, and approved vendors, supporting inventory flow and customer schedules. Drivers use a company-provided truck and represent CarMax when interacting with customers, vendors, store associates, and the public. The position includes home deliveries of purchased vehicles and pickups of vehicles for appraisal. Drivers follow CarMax Standard Work and handle delivery and appraisal paperwork accurately.

The job requires safe vehicle loading, securing, transport, and unloading, including hands-on freight handling and physical work on multi-level transport decks. Drivers conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain compliant DOT logs and documentation, and keep their equipment clean, maintained, and operationally ready. Work takes place outdoors, including in inclement weather. The hourly rate is $15.60–$26.50.

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Clean driving record with no serious violations in the past three years and must meet CarMax’s Driver Safety Evaluation criteria.
• Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; secure, block, and restrain vehicles; and perform repetitive physical tasks such as pulling, torquing, and tensioning chains, binders, and straps.
• Must be able to climb, bend, and kneel to access and secure vehicles on multi-level transport decks.
• Ability to meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
• Must obtain a DOT Medical Card before starting with CarMax.
• Comfort working outdoors, including exposure to noise and inclement weather.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with adherence to CarMax policies and safety standards.
• Ability to work efficiently and use time wisely.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience and 1 year of delivery driving experience or CarMax experience.

Nice To Haves

• Additional state-specific endorsements may apply, such as Illinois Class C, Indiana “For Hire,” Louisiana Chauffeur’s License, or Mississippi Class D Commercial.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and CarMax standards.
• Maintain accurate and compliant DOT logs and documentation.
• Load, secure, transport, and unload vehicles safely and efficiently, including performing hands-on freight handling.
• Move vehicles between CarMax locations, customer locations, and approved vendors using a company-provided truck.
• Keep the truck and equipment clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready.
• Deliver vehicles accurately and on time to support inventory flow and keep customers and stores on schedule.
• Follow CarMax Standard Work to prepare and execute home deliveries and appraisal pickups at customer locations.
• Handle delivery and appraisal paperwork accurately.
• Interact professionally with customers, vendors, store associates, and the public, representing CarMax values.
• Follow CarMax policies and safety standards.

Benefits

• Paid sick time: eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive associates can earn up to 48 hours per year, accrued each pay period.
• Paid vacation: eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive associates receive between 80 and 200 hours per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service.
• Eight hours of pay for each of six scheduled paid holidays per year, plus one floating holiday.
• Holiday Premium Pay for eligible associates who work on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
• Full-time salaried associates receive paid time away, with no specified limit as needed for sick time, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holiday, subject to manager approval.
