About The Position

As an Intermediate to Senior Vegetation and Wetland Ecologist, we invite you to join our biophysical team to engage on a wide variety of multi-disciplinary projects for our long-term clients spanning many market sectors. Klohn Crippen Berger’s biophysical team works closely with our geoscientists and engineers to deliver environmental and regulatory support for projects throughout Canada. Requirements

  • 6 or more years of applicable experience conducting environmental assessments
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree specializing in Soil Science, Botany, Ecology, Biology or Environmental Sciences
  • A solid understanding of vegetation ecology and wetland science
  • Registered or qualify to be registered as a P.Biol. or P.Ag.
  • Registered or qualify to be registered as an Authenticating Wetland Professional
  • Initiative, motivation and adaptability to manage project deliverables and achieve goals
  • Ability to build positive, effective relationships with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills including your experience in writing proposals, technical reports and general project correspondence
  • Experience planning, leading, and conducting vegetation and wetland surveys
  • Understanding and experience with the Alberta Wetland Policy and wetland classifications
  • Proven taxonomic vegetation identification skills including wetland indicators, rare plants, native plants, and introduced and/or weed species
  • Ability to prepare and digitize ELC mapping and wetland boundaries by interpreting digital imagery and field data derived from detailed surveys
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian System of Soil Classification and AGRASID
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulatory legislation, guidelines, and regulations
  • Reclamation, restoration, and/or bioengineering experience
  • Experience and knowledge in various market sectors including water resources, mining, infrastructure, and transportation
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Capability with GIS and data management
  • Participation in industry Technical and Professional associations

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience with various Ecological Land Classification (ELC) systems and spatial datasets such as the Alberta Vegetation Inventory

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your knowledge of vegetation community and wetland characterization, impact and effects assessments, mitigation management, and habitat reclamation to obtain regulatory permits and approvals
  • Collaborate with our talented professionals across multiple disciplines to plan projects, implement environmentally sustainable and innovative designs, manage contractors, and coordinate with regulatory agencies
  • Be the subject matter expert providing high-value technical services to develop positive relationships with our key clients, both internal and external to the organization
  • Plan and execute field programs in local and remote sites
  • Prepare and review technical reports
  • Develop project proposals and budgets
  • Participate in our global environmental social governance, joint health and safety, or a local social committee
  • Travel throughout Canada
