About The Position

Lewis Farm is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Vegetable Manager to oversee the full production cycle of their organic vegetable operations. This role is central to the farm's daily activities, involving planning, planting, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and managing the financial performance of the vegetable department. The Vegetable Manager will also play a key role in mentoring the Junior Crew, a group of local Appalachian youth, by setting a positive tone and providing hands-on training in all aspects of vegetable production. The ideal candidate will be passionate about growing food that is rooted in place, connected to community, and meaningful from seed to table, while also developing the next generation of agricultural talent.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Willingness and ability to commute to Wardensville, WV if necessary

Responsibilities

  • Own the full production cycle of vegetables, from planning and planting through harvest, post-harvest handling, and food flow to market and restaurant.
  • Manage the financial performance of the vegetable department.
  • Ensure the farm is always operating at its best.
  • Mentor youth participants in the Junior Crew program, providing hands-on training and setting a positive tone for their experience.
  • Develop people by leading by example, providing tools and encouragement, giving clear and useful feedback, and modeling company values.
  • Build, refine, and rework systems to continuously improve operations.
  • Adapt to changing information, feedback, and challenges to evolve systems and solutions.
  • Set and maintain high standards for quality and cleanliness for both personal work and the team.
  • Treat tools, materials, and spaces with respect and care for their long-term sustainability.
