About The Position

The Vector Control Crew Leader coordinates the day-to-day activities of Williams County Vector Control field operations and seasonal staff. This role performs all tasks associated with mosquito surveillance and eradication, including trap maintenance/monitoring, specimen collection/processing in field and laboratory environments, and conducting spray missions. The leader also oversees daily Vector Control field and basic lab operations, incorporating fundamental Integrated Pest Management procedures to ensure compliance, efficiency, and safety. Additionally, they coordinate and participate in the handling, mixing, and application of pesticides, enforce laws and safety regulations, and coordinate daily work of seasonal staff, providing training and monitoring performance. The position involves conducting basic laboratory tests, interpreting and reporting results, and maintaining thorough reports and records. The Crew Leader must stay updated on Vector Control regulations, methodology, pesticide labels, and equipment, perform regular maintenance and calibration of equipment, and maintain relationships with pilots, vendors, and agencies. They will also oversee Vector Control activities in the absence of the Vector Control Director and maintain confidentiality of non-public records.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of pest control experience
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License, or equivalent
  • Must possess or acquire a North Dakota Commercial / Governmental Pesticide Applicators Certification within three (3) months of start date
  • Successful applicants must pass a background check and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily work of seasonal staff; provides training and monitors work performance
  • Conducts a variety of basic laboratory tests and interprets/reports results in a timely manner
  • Completes and maintains thorough reports, records, and documents
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Vector Control regulations, methodology, pesticide labels, and equipment
  • Performs regular maintenance and calibration of equipment
  • Maintains a working relationship with pilots, vendors, and public and private agencies
  • Oversees Vector Control activities in the absence of the Vector Control Director
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
