About The Position

The Vault Inspection Technician supports electrical utility projects by performing underground vault inspections, capturing photographic and 360° video documentation, and following strict confined‑space and safety protocols. Responsibilities include entering electrical vaults, operating inspection equipment, and coordinating with engineering and safety teams to ensure all work meets regulatory and project standards. This role involves close collaboration with project supervisors, safety personnel, and field crews to complete scheduled night and day inspection routes across the City of Chicago. The position requires hands‑on fieldwork in confined spaces, consistent overnight availability, and adherence to OSHA‑compliant training requirements. All necessary equipment, security support, and confined‑space standby personnel will be provided.

Requirements

  • 0–3 years of experience in field inspection, electrical utility work, or confined-space operations
  • Confined space training compliant with OSHA 1910.146 and 1926 Subpart AA (required)
  • Familiarity with manholes, electrical vaults, or similar underground environments
  • Ability to work:
  • Night shifts (M–TH, 8pm–6am) for approximately three weeks
  • Day shifts (M–F) for approximately four weeks after night work is completed
  • Comfortable working in underground, confined, and physically demanding environments
  • Ability to wear two layers of FR (fire-resistant) clothing
  • Strong attention to safety, hazard recognition, and procedural compliance
  • Reliable transportation to the designated Chicago office for equipment pickup
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with supervisors and safety teams
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Perform underground vault inspections during assigned night or day shifts
  • Capture required imagery, including standard photos and 360° video
  • Follow OSHA-compliant confined space entry procedures and safety protocols
  • Coordinate with safety teams, security personnel, and project supervisors
  • Pick up and return inspection equipment daily at the designated Chicago office
  • Document completed vaults and communicate progress to project leads
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, equipment usage, and site conditions
  • Support field operations and assist with tasks needed to meet project timelines
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and internal requirements
