About The Position

New Lothrop Area Public Schools is seeking a Varsity Wrestling Assistant Coach for the 2026-2027 season. The pay rate is per Schedule C. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of high school wrestling rules, weight class management, scoring, and technical skill development. The ideal candidate will have previous experience coaching or competing at a high level in wrestling and the ability to effectively teach technique, conditioning, and mental toughness to student-athletes. Responsibilities include running high-intensity drills, assisting with weight management, conducting individual skill sessions, and promoting sportsmanship and positive team culture.

Requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of high school wrestling rules, weight class management, scoring, and technical skill development.
• Previous experience coaching high school or club wrestling, or collegiate/varsity high school wrestling competing experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Dedication to promoting sportsmanship, managing team culture, and supervising student-athletes.
• Commitment to completing required district and state athletic administrative duties, hydration testing coordination, and skin check protocols.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to the first contest).
• Complete MHSAA Rules Meeting requirement.
• Ability to pass a State of Michigan background check (ICHAT) and FBI fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

• Teach high-level technique, conditioning, and mental toughness to varsity-level student-athletes.
• Run high-intensity practice drills.
• Assist with weight management monitoring.
• Conduct individual skill sessions.
• Promote sportsmanship and manage team culture.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and travel.
• Complete required district and state athletic administrative duties.
• Coordinate hydration testing.
• Perform skin check protocols.
