About The Position

Buchanan Community Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Varsity Women’s Wrestling Coach to operate within the capacity of High School athletics. This role involves overseeing assistant coaches, developing training programs, ensuring athlete safety, and promoting sportsmanship. The coach will be responsible for maintaining records, adhering to district and MHSAA criteria, and working with the athletic coordinator on scheduling and equipment. Additionally, the coach will develop a positive public communication strategy for the athletic program and foster the skills and attitudes of younger players.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before student/parents/stakeholders.
  • Ability to listen and respond to inquiries.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to interpret instructions whether written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications.
  • Able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor.
  • Punctual and rarely absent work habits.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Must be able to communicate to the team in order to give directions.
  • Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout their employment in the District.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all assistant coaches in sport.
  • Gives input in hiring and retaining of all assistant coaches.
  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  • Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season.
  • Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  • Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.
  • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  • Maintains competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques, and general information about all aspects of the sport.
  • Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in this sport and is consistent in supervising district & MHSAA criteria for eligibility in competition.
  • Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.
  • Works closely with the athletic coordinator in scheduling interscholastic contests.
  • Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
  • Accounts for all equipment or delegates the responsibility.
  • Develops a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the athletic program.
  • Develops a quality program in respective sport.
  • Takes time necessary to develop younger players’ skills and attitudes.
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Supervises students.
