About The Position

This position serves as the operational manager for the cheer program. The coach will collaborate with other coaches to conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct athletes in game strategies and techniques. LakeVille Community Schools serves approximately 1000 students in PreK-12th grade and offers a supportive school culture with a 1:1 technology initiative. The district utilizes "The Leader in Me" curriculum and has an engaged school board.

Requirements

  • Experience as a school coach is required
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills
  • Must possess knowledge of the MHSAA rules and regulations, and effective strategies and techniques of the sport
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school administrators, parents, and the community
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including MHSAA guidelines, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of an organization
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the school community
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to operate computers, interactive technology equipment, and related software

Responsibilities

  • Instructs players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
  • Collaborates with assistant high school and middle school coaches on the program design, strategies, and techniques
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
  • Assesses players' skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and determines game strategy
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury
  • Models good sportsmanship behavior and maintains appropriate behavior towards players, officials, colleagues, parents, and spectators
  • Maintains the equipment and storage in an orderly manner and assumes responsibility for its security
  • Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students
  • Submits a list of award winners to the athletic director at the end of the season
  • Participates in special activities, i.e., parents’ night, banquets, award nights, pep assemblies, parades, and community events
  • Maintains and distributes up-to-date rosters, eligibility information, emergency data, and other related records
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
  • Attends clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
  • All Other duties as assigned.
