About The Position

The Middle School Head Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing a positive and competitive middle school athletic program. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for student-athletes. The Head Coach works closely with the Athletic Director, school administration, staff, students, and families to support the overall mission of the school.

Requirements

Previous experience coaching or cheerleading at the high school or collegiate level.
Certifications in CPR/First Aid and NFHS coaching requirements.
Strong knowledge of stunting, safety rules, and choreography.
Track the academic progress and eligibility of team members, emphasizing that they are "students first".
Foster a disciplined, inclusive environment that promotes sportsmanship and team unity.

Responsibilities

Plan and lead daily practices, focusing on proper technique for stunts, tumbling, jumps, and cheer choreography.
Enforce strict adherence to safety guidelines, including NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) regulations and injury prevention protocols.
Oversee performances at football/basketball games, pep rallies, and community events to promote school spirit.
Plan and execute routines for cheer competitions, including music selection and choreography.
Organize and conduct tryouts, manage the team budget, coordinate fundraising, and arrange transportation for events.
Monitor academic progress and behavior of athletes, fostering a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture.
Serve as the primary contact for parents, school administration, and athletic directors regarding scheduling, safety, and team policies.
Support head coach in assessing players' progress, tracking performance statistics, and providing individualized feedback to help players improve their skills and reach their full potential.
Ensuring adherence to all relevant rules, regulations, and safety protocols established by the governing bodies and the organization.
Promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all team members.
Direct and mentor assistant or junior varsity coaches to ensure a consistent pipeline of athlete development.
