About The Position

The Middle School Head Coach is responsible for leading, organizing, and developing a positive and competitive middle school athletic program. This role focuses on teaching fundamental skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character while creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for student-athletes. The Head Coach works closely with the Athletic Director, school administration, staff, students, and families to support the overall mission of the school.

Requirements

  • Previous experience coaching or cheerleading at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Certifications in CPR/First Aid and NFHS coaching requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of stunting, safety rules, and choreography.
  • Track the academic progress and eligibility of team members, emphasizing that they are "students first".
  • Foster a disciplined, inclusive environment that promotes sportsmanship and team unity.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead daily practices, focusing on proper technique for stunts, tumbling, jumps, and cheer choreography.
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety guidelines, including NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) regulations and injury prevention protocols.
  • Oversee performances at football/basketball games, pep rallies, and community events to promote school spirit.
  • Plan and execute routines for cheer competitions, including music selection and choreography.
  • Organize and conduct tryouts, manage the team budget, coordinate fundraising, and arrange transportation for events.
  • Monitor academic progress and behavior of athletes, fostering a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture.
  • Serve as the primary contact for parents, school administration, and athletic directors regarding scheduling, safety, and team policies.
  • Support head coach in assessing players' progress, tracking performance statistics, and providing individualized feedback to help players improve their skills and reach their full potential.
  • Ensuring adherence to all relevant rules, regulations, and safety protocols established by the governing bodies and the organization.
  • Promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all team members.
  • Direct and mentor assistant or junior varsity coaches to ensure a consistent pipeline of athlete development.
