About The Position

While this coach will still be a basketball coach first — stepping onto the floor for practices, contributing to player development, and being a visible presence for our athletes — the primary value they bring is in-game preparation and in-game decision support. You'll work closely with the head coach to make sure our staff has the information needed to make smart, timely adjustments.

Requirements

• Prior experience playing and/or coaching basketball at the high school, club, or collegiate level
• Familiarity with film breakdown and scouting processes
• Comfortable working with basic statistical tracking (spreadsheets, stat apps, or similar tools)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to turn detailed information into clear, usable takeaways
• Ability to work well within a staff structure, supporting the head coach's decisions rather than operating independently
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Must clear background check/clearance requirements per Poly and CIF policies
• Availability for practices, games, and film/prep work outside of practice hours throughout the season
• Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities

Nice To Haves

• Experience with platforms like Hudl or Synergy is a plus

Responsibilities

• Scout upcoming opponents: personnel, tendencies, sets, and situational patterns
• Break down film (opponent and self-scout) and turn it into clear, actionable reports
• Track statistics during practices and games (shooting splits, possessions, matchup data, etc.)
• Prepare scouting reports and game plans ahead of contests
• Provide real-time, concise insights during games — foul trouble, tendencies, matchup notes — that support in-game decisions
• Assist with practice planning and on-court coaching duties as needed
• Help organize and maintain game and practice records over the course of the season
• Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment
• Willingness to take on other duties as needed
