About The Position

The Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach will assist the head coach in conducting the athletic program, helping students achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. This role requires knowledge of MSHSAA rules, event procedures, and coaching techniques, as well as the ability to promote positive relations within the school and community.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Criminal fingerprint/background clearance is required.

Nice To Haves

Prior coaching experience is desired.

Responsibilities

Have a working knowledge of MSHSAA rules, event procedures and coaching technique.
Complete sideline training.
Support the head coach in conducting the athletic program.
Maintain appropriate rapport with participant parents.
During games, maintain self-control and provide an example of sportsmanlike conduct in relationship with players, staff, officials, and opponents.
Keep the head coach informed of appropriate issues.
Assist in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
Work cooperatively with District staff.
Attend all required meetings.
Attend all events.
Conduct practice drills, distribute and collect required equipment, determine eligibility and work with student manager as directed by the head coach.
Promote positive relations between the building, District, Board and community.
Execute all policies, rules and regulations adopted by the Board.
Make decisions for the best interests of the District and within Board policies and CSIP objectives.
Other duties as assigned by the head coach.
