About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation to ensure all students graduate high school ready for college and career. The district serves approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12 across 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs. A significant portion of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch (82.3%), are served by Special Education (20.1%), and are students of color (83%). This specific position is for a Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach at Corcoran for the 2025-2026 season. The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, staffed by certified, dedicated individuals who work hard and care deeply about their student athletes. The modified program (grades 7-8) focuses on skill development and participation, emphasizing discipline, enjoyment of play, competition, and dedication to hard work, preparing students for higher levels of competition. At the high school level (Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity), the teams strive for success and efficient team and individual effort, stressing the development of academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

Requirements

• New York State Coaching Certification
• Valid First Aid course accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
• Valid Adult CPR certification accepted as meeting NYS Coaching requirements
• Workshop - Child Abuse Identification
• Workshop - School Violence Intervention and Prevention
• Workshop - Dignity For All Students Act (DASA)
• Fingerprint Clearance
• School District Recommendation
• Required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate
