About The Position

Benchmark is seeking a compassionate Van Driver to provide transportation for community residents in Shelton, Connecticut. The position also assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing activities that require van transportation. The driver maintains vehicles in safe, working order, accompanies residents on excursions as an Activity Assistant, transports residents to appointments and outings, and monitors residents’ activities to help ensure their safety. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. An F endorsement is required. Benefits are available to community associates, with eligibility varying by employment status.

Requirements

F endorsement required.
High school diploma or equivalent certificate preferred.
Demonstrated interest in the elderly and knowledge of serving their needs.
Demonstrated activities or recreational experience.
Excellent communication skills.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

Maintain vehicles in accordance with warranty requirements and/or the internal maintenance plan to ensure they are safe and in working order.
Act as an Activity Assistant during excursions and stay with the group except when parking the van.
Transport residents to and from medical appointments, outings, and shopping trips.
Monitor resident activity and alert staff when assistance is necessary to assure resident safety.
Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing activities that require van transportation.
